Vintage Bobbsey Twins History

When I was a young girl I loved
reading the Bobbsey Twins.
(This trio can be found in my shop, here.)

My older Sister (Hi Sista K!) was
reading Nancy Drew, so the
Bobbsey Twins were a great
start into my reading adventures.

And what adventures they were!

Nan and Bert, Freddie and Flossie.

Still to this day seeing these
old books brings a smile to my
face and a skip in my heart.

I found a web page with
some neat information
about how they began
and the order of the
publications.

They were written
by Edward Stratemeyer!
Laura Lee Hope
must have been
his pen name.

My favorite Bobbsey Twins
books are the Grossett
and Dunlop #1's.
Made in the early 1900's.
My Grandparents gave me
my first antique copy that
looks just like this.
I still have it and cherish it.
They had their own antique
and book store, which
is probably where I started
learning about old things!

I do remember reading
these...the covers with
the purple spines from the
mid to late sixties.

This cover, like the
one in my Bella Shop
is from the 1940's
to the early 1960's.

Something I have never
come across (yet) in my
antiquing adventures are
the original dust
jackets or these
paper dolls found on this

Always fun, always
an adventure
learning about vintage
things. This is why
I enjoy the hunt and
even adding to my own
collections!

Happy Decoration Day

What we now "celebrate" as Memorial Day
used to be a day set aside to
remember the fallen heroes of the Civil War.

It was called Decoration Day.
(Both of these cards are available in my shop.)

Today while we are all enjoying our barbecues
and chips let us remember those who sacrificed
so that we may live in this country
as free men, under God.

Thank you.

Bella Rosa Five Year Anniversary Giveaway! Five Winners Win a Gift Certificate to My Shop

It is hard to believe 5 years have gone by since I started my online store, Bella Rosa Antiques.

5 years!

Where does the time go?

I had just found out I was pregnant with my Dear Bebe and I was opening up my own shop. Believe it or not, I really thought I would not have it open for too long. I was turning forty that year and well, as it turned out, I enjoyed having my own shop while staying at home with my little Sweet Pea!

To celebrate, I am having an anniversary giveaway! 5 winners will be chosen to each win a 25.00 gift certificate to my shop!
(The gift certificate includes shipping. If what you have chosen exceeds the gift certificate, you'll just have to pay the balance. Jewelry and paper ephemera are free to ship!)

All you need to do are these 5 things below to be eligible for the drawing:

1. Go to my shop here and tell me what your favorite item is by leaving a comment on this post. One entry per person.
2. Become a follower of my blog.
3. Mention it on your blog with a link back to this post.
4. Relax.
5. Enjoy the day!

That's it.

Just spread the word!
The winner will be chosen on June 5th! Be sure to leave your email in case you do not have a link to a blog.

(UPDATE....due to our recent trip out of town the deadline has been extended 'til the end of the week on June 7th!!!!)

Thank you to all of the patrons, readers and friends I have made while blogging and antiquing over the years. I couldn't have done it without you.

Linking to Pink Saturday....Beverly is celebrating 5 years of PINKY greatness! Congratulations!

Sneak Peek on Our Antiquing Week

All this past week we were collecting antiques like a pair of squirrels.

Stocking up for winter? Well, maybe or maybe not, we just finally pulled all of our summer clothes out of storage. What a breath of fresh air to be able to wear our lighter attire.

This is my favorite time of year!

But, I digress, the matter at hand is of course, what we found:

Lovely old plate, signed.

Cobbler's shoe forms...
cast iron. These are normally
on a longer post but
are neat just as they are now.

Antique postcards...another fan!

Victorian style mug

French perfume bottle.

French dresser box.

Vintage gardening/ flower book.
These are actually hard to find.

Hershey Park happy!
A vintage souvenir pillow cover.

Lovely cover on this vintage
French book from the sixties.

And another French book...

Victorian hot air balloon
Valentine.

There is much more to see however I have not finished editing all of the photos.
A lot of work involved to prep each and every item for the final listing onto the website. . . but I enjoy it all as I get to stay home with my Dear Bebe.

I'll be back for a Memorial Day post but probably won't have these all ready. We are planting flowers and working around the house, then off to enjoy the weekend!

May you have a blessed and relaxing weekend as well!

Prayers for Oklahoma & Where to Send Donations

Today I was going to do a post about the movie "GATSBY" and all of the glitz and glamour of the Roaring Twenties.

Right now, Gatsby just doesn't seem that important.

Today I am asking for prayers for Oklahoma. Prayers for parents who lost a child, people who lost their homes, people who lost everything but the clothes they were wearing.

My heart goes out to them. My heart lifted when I saw the video of the woman whose dog popped out of the rubble while she was being interviewed by the news. Good news and a prayer answered.

Hope. There is always hope.

We also want to help. But how and where?

There are some great organizations that will use your money wisely.
I think one of them is Mercy Chefs. They are on the ground in a disaster like this and all they do is feed the hungry.

There is also the Salvation Army.

I'll be back tomorrow with something else. Maybe Gatsby. Maybe just a sneak
peek at what we brought home this past weekend from an antiquing trip.

See you soon. . .and if any other organization is out there that you feel is a worthy group to donate to that will help those in Oklahoma, feel free to leave a comment and let us know.

Some of My Favorite Pinks Part III: The Ones That Got Away

We find a lot of stuff.
Some good,
some not so great.

I like to find pink stuff.
Old pink stuff.

Here are some of my
favorites through
the years....

All are SOLD.
Gone!
Some lucky gals
have them now.

But that's okay! I enjoy
finding good homes
for my pink stuff.

My absolute favorite is a toss
up between the pink ruffly fan
or the pink feathery hat.

Which one is your favorite?

Linking to Pink Saturday!
Enjoy your weekend
and may it be filled
with many blessings
and some pink stuff!

And be sure to tune in
next week for my Bella Rosa Antiques
 5th Anniversary Giveaway
and the 5 year anniversary of Pink Saturday!
We both must have started at the same time!
